Spotted
The Coastal Miner is a terrestrial bird uniquely adapted to arid and semi-arid coastal environments. It is characterized by its sandy plumage, blending seamlessly with the dry landscape.
Where to spot
Endemic to the arid coastal deserts and adjacent scrublands of Peru and northern Chile.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground in open, sandy areas, often running quickly with a low profile. Its inconspicuous plumage makes it blend in well, so watch for movement.
When to spot
Active year-round, primarily during the day. Most active in the cooler parts of the morning and late afternoon.
