Spotted
Cherrie's Spinetail is a little-known ovenbird restricted to humid foothill forests of the eastern Andes. It has a dull plumage but a distinctive, high-pitched call.
Where to spot
Humid foothill forests and dense secondary growth in the eastern Andes of southern Colombia and northern Ecuador.
How to spot
Listen for its high-pitched, often accelerating calls, which are the primary means of detection. It stays hidden in dense undergrowth, so visual observations are challenging.
When to spot
Year-round. Best detected by its unique vocalizations, especially in the early morning.
Its isolated population and specific habitat preference make it a species of interest for conservation.
