Where to spot
Inhabits humid tropical montane forests and subtropical forests of southeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Look for its tiny size and quick movements on thin branches and vines. Note its distinctive chestnut head. Listen for its extremely high-pitched, soft 'tsee' calls or almost imperceptible tapping. Requires patience and good hearing to spot this elusive bird.

The rich 'chestnut' coloration on its head and breast is quite striking and helps it stand out from other piculet species.
