Charlotte's Bulbul is a medium-sized bulbul with overall olive-brown plumage and a slightly paler eye-ring. It is a common inhabitant of Southeast Asian forests.
Where to spot
Found in Southeast Asia, including Sumatra, Borneo, and some smaller islands. Inhabits primary and secondary rainforests, forest edges, and mature gardens.
How to spot
Look for its overall olive-brown plumage and subtle pale eye-ring. Listen for its varied calls, which often provide the best clue to its presence. It can be seen foraging actively in the mid-story and lower canopy.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its resident tropical habitat. Most active during daylight hours, especially in the morning.

This species is named after Charlotte, daughter of British naturalist Sir Stamford Raffles. It is a classic forest bulbul, often heard chattering amidst the foliage.
