Widespread across the Greater Sunda Islands (Java, Borneo, etc.) and the Malay Peninsula. Inhabits forests, woodlands, plantations, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for its overall olive-brown plumage. Listen for its varied and often loud vocalizations. It is a relatively common and conspicuous bulbul.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its resident tropical habitat. Most active during daylight hours, especially in the morning.
