Spotted
The Yellow-gilled Greenbul is a generally olive-green bulbul, often difficult to distinguish from similar species without a good view of its subtle yellow highlights around the gape. It is a denizen of dense forests.
Where to spot
Found in parts of Central Africa, typically within the understory and mid-story of primary and mature secondary rainforests.
How to spot
Identification can be challenging. Look for its overall olive plumage and try to discern any yellowish tinge around the bill. Listening for its distinctive calls in dense forest is often the best way to locate it.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its resident habitat. Active during daylight hours, often remaining hidden in dense foliage.

Its common name, 'Yellow-gilled,' refers to the yellowish skin around the gape (corner of the mouth), a subtle but sometimes diagnostic feature, especially when seen up close.
