High-altitude páramo grasslands and open scrublands in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru.
How to spot
Look for its unmistakable black plumage with a white collar and white patches at the base of the primaries, along with the bright red, warty facial skin. Often seen walking or running on the ground in open areas.
