Spotted
Buckley's Forest-Falcon is a rare and elusive raptor of the neotropical rainforests, known for its stealthy hunting techniques within dense undergrowth. Like other forest-falcons, it primarily preys on birds and small mammals.
Where to spot
Humid lowland rainforests in parts of the western Amazon Basin, primarily eastern Ecuador, northeastern Peru, and western Brazil.
How to spot
Requires significant patience and familiarity with forest-falcon calls. Listen for its unique vocalizations, as it is often heard before seen. Look for a medium-sized, dark falcon darting through dense forest.
When to spot
Likely active during the day, but due to its rarity and habitat, observations are opportunistic. Dawn and dusk might be more productive when forest-falcons are often more vocal.

This species is one of the least known forest-falcons, with very few documented sightings and much of its biology remaining a mystery to ornithologists.
