Spotted
The Cape Crow is a medium-sized, all-black crow found across southern and eastern Africa. It is characterized by its relatively long, slender bill and a somewhat shaggy appearance on its head and neck.
Where to spot
Widespread across southern and eastern Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and parts of East Africa, inhabiting open grasslands, farmlands, and savannas.
How to spot
Look for an all-black crow with a noticeably slender, slightly downcurved bill. Its calls are typically a harsh 'kraa-kraa-kraa'. It often cocks its head to one side while inspecting the ground.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day, often seen foraging in fields or perched on prominent structures.

These crows are known for their intelligence and adaptability, often being found in both natural habitats and agricultural areas, where they can be agricultural pests but also help control insect populations.
