Where to spot

How to spot
Look in the mid-story and subcanopy, often perching quietly for long periods. The male's bold yellow and black-spotted underparts are unmistakable. Listen for its distinctive, high-pitched, whistled calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the early morning when foraging.
The distinct male plumage and often secretive nature make this a prized sighting for birdwatchers in its increasingly fragmented habitat.
