Spotted
A medium-sized, drab olive-brown bird found in the humid lowland and foothill forests of Central America. It is best identified by its rich, clear, whistled song.
Where to spot
Humid lowland and foothill forests from southeastern Mexico south to northern Costa Rica.
How to spot
Often heard before seen. Listen for its distinctive, pure, whistled songs, which are often the best clue to its presence. Look for it foraging quietly in the dense understory.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active and vocal in the early morning and late afternoon.
Like other schiffornis species, it is often referred to as 'thrush-like' due to its quiet, secretive behavior and melodious, whistled vocalizations.
