Lowland and hill rainforests, as well as secondary forests, throughout Borneo. They prefer areas with dense undergrowth and close proximity to water sources.

These are generally shy and reclusive forest birds. Look for movement on the forest floor, especially along trails or near clearings. Listen for their quiet calls or foraging sounds in the leaf litter.
