Spotted
The Blue-headed Crested-Flycatcher is a striking passerine bird known for its glossy blue head and crest. It is an active insectivore, often seen flitting through the forest canopy.
Where to spot
Found in tropical and subtropical moist lowland forests, as well as montane forests, across West and Central Africa.
How to spot
Look for its vibrant blue head and crest in the mid to upper canopy. It often joins mixed-species foraging flocks, so observe patiently when such flocks pass by. Listen for its high-pitched, somewhat buzzing calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons when they are most active foraging.
This species can raise and lower its distinctive crest, which is used in courtship displays and alarm signals.
