Where to spot
Widely distributed across South and Southeast Asia, inhabiting various forest types, woodlands, bamboo thickets, and even well-wooded gardens.
How to spot
Look for its quick, agile movements as it forages for insects in the mid-canopy. Its bright blue plumage is often visible even in shaded areas. Listen for its distinctive short, sharp calls and gentle chattering.
When to spot
Year-round resident in most of its range, with some populations undertaking short-distance migrations. Most active during the breeding season and in early mornings or late afternoons.
