Spotted
The Black-throated Parrotbill is a distinctive and often colorful parrotbill found in montane forests of southern Vietnam. It is recognized by its black throat and yellow eye-ring.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Central Highlands of southern Vietnam, particularly the Dalat Plateau. Inhabits montane evergreen forests, especially those with bamboo and dense undergrowth.
How to spot
Look for its striking black throat patch contrasting with a pale breast, along with its bright yellow eye-ring and stout bill. Often found in small, active flocks, moving through dense vegetation. Listen for its chattering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day. Best observed during the breeding season (spring-summer) when birds are more vocal.
This species is restricted to the high-altitude 'Dalat Plateau' in Vietnam, making it a key endemic bird for that specific region.
