The Black-throated Laughingthrush is a medium-sized, strikingly patterned species with a prominent black throat and often intricate facial markings. These highly vocal and social birds move in noisy groups through the undergrowth of forests. It is widespread across Southeast Asia.

Widespread across Southeast Asia, including parts of southern China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. It inhabits evergreen and mixed deciduous forests, bamboo thickets, and dense scrub, from lowlands to mid-elevations.
How to spot
Listen for their loud, varied, and often 'laughing' calls, which are a good clue to their presence. Look for groups moving actively through the undergrowth and lower canopy. The prominent black throat is the most important identification feature.
