Spotted
A small, distinctive warbler with a striking black collar or band across its chest, contrasting with pale underparts and grey upperparts.
Where to spot
Dry acacia woodlands and thornbush in East Africa, specifically in a band from southeastern Ethiopia to northern Kenya and Somalia.
How to spot
Look for the prominent black band across its breast. It is an active gleaner of insects, often moving quickly through acacia trees. Listen for its high-pitched, somewhat sibilant calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the mornings. Breeding is linked to local rainfall.
The Black-necked Eremomela's bold black 'necklace' is a unique and unmistakable field mark among the eremomela species.
