The Black Cuckooshrike is a common and widespread cuckooshrike species found across much of sub-Saharan Africa. It exhibits strong sexual dimorphism.
Where to spot
Found in a wide range of wooded habitats, including open woodlands, savannas, riverine forests, and cultivated areas throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
How to spot
Look for the glossy black male or the yellow-and-black barred female. They typically forage quietly among the foliage. Listen for their distinctive, often descending whistle calls.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours. Often observed foraging in trees.
