Spotted
The Relict Crow is a large, entirely black crow endemic to the tiny island of Guam in Micronesia. It is critically endangered and faces severe threats to its survival.
Where to spot
Critically endangered and endemic to the island of Guam (now likely extinct in the wild) in the Mariana Islands. Historically found in limestone forests. Only remnant populations may exist in extremely remote areas, or the species is now extinct in the wild.
How to spot
Observation is almost impossible in the wild due to its extreme rarity/likely extinction. Historically, it was a shy forest crow. Look for a large, all-black crow with a heavy bill, but success is highly improbable.
When to spot
Critically endangered, likely extinct in the wild. Observations are highly unlikely in nature. If any individuals persist, they would be active during daylight hours.
The Relict Crow population suffered a catastrophic decline due to the introduction of the invasive Brown Treesnake to Guam, pushing the species to the brink of extinction.
