The Purple Honeycreeper is a stunningly colored small bird. Males are deep violet-blue with a black mask, wings, and tail, and bright yellow legs. Females are green. It possesses a long, decurved bill.

Widespread across humid lowland forests, forest edges, and cultivated areas from the Guianas and Venezuela through the Amazon Basin to Bolivia and southern Brazil.
