The Banded Barbet is a striking African barbet with a vibrant red head, broad black band across its breast, and yellow and black streaked body. It is found in highland forests.
Where to spot
Humid highland forests, forest edges, and montane woodlands in the highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often duetting calls. Look for its bright red head and black breast band in the mid to upper canopy, especially in fruiting trees.
When to spot
Year-round; most active during the morning and late afternoon.
