Spotted
The Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird is a widespread and common African barbet, easily identified by its green upperparts, streaked underparts, and a bright yellow rump patch. It inhabits a variety of forest and woodland types.
Where to spot
Humid lowland and montane forests, forest edges, woodlands, and gardens across a wide range in Sub-Saharan Africa, from West to East and Southern Africa.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, mechanical 'tink' call. Look for it high in the canopy, especially in fruiting trees. The yellow rump is a good identifying feature, often visible in flight.
When to spot
Year-round; constantly calling, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.
