Inhabits rainforests and wet sclerophyll forests along the east coast of Australia, from south-eastern Queensland to central New South Wales.
How to spot
Listen for the loud, distinctive scratching and rustling sounds as it kicks leaf litter sideways. Remain still and observe the forest floor. Look for its stout legs and stiff, spiny tail.
