The Asian Rosy Finch is a beautiful, medium-sized finch with males displaying a rosy-pink wash on the belly and wings, and a streaky brown back. Females are duller.
Where to spot
Breeds in the high mountains of Siberia, Mongolia, and China, wintering south to parts of Japan and Korea. It inhabits alpine tundra, rocky slopes, and open woodlands.
How to spot
Scan open, rocky habitats. Look for flocks foraging on the ground or perching on rocks. The rosy wash on the wings and belly is a key field mark for males.
When to spot
Best observed during summer in its northern breeding grounds. In winter, they move south and can be found in larger flocks in more accessible, lower elevation areas.
