Spotted
The Grey-faced Babbler is a distinctive species with a grey face and plain brown body, often found in dense undergrowth. It is a shy but vocal resident of tropical forests.
Where to spot
Found in parts of Southeast Asia, including Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar. It inhabits lowland and submontane evergreen forests, preferring dense undergrowth and bamboo.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often explosive, 'pom-pom-pom-pom' calls. Look for its grey face as it moves quietly through dense foliage near the ground.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Can be challenging to see due to its skulking nature.
The contrast between its grey face and warm brown body is a key identification feature, especially when seen in good light.
