Spotted
The Andean Snipe is a medium-sized snipe found in the high Andes of South America. It is a cryptic inhabitant of boggy grasslands and marshy areas.
Where to spot
High-altitude wetlands, marshy grasslands, and bogs across the Andes of South America, from Colombia to Argentina.
How to spot
Scan boggy grasslands and marshy areas at high altitudes. Its camouflage is excellent, so look for subtle movements or listen for its distinctive aerial drumming sound during display flights.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round in its highland range. Best opportunities are during the breeding season when males perform their aerial displays, often at dawn or dusk.
