A strikingly beautiful ground-dwelling dove known for its iridescent green back and wings. It is a widespread resident of forests and woodlands across South and Southeast Asia, and Australasia.
Where to spot
Widespread from the Indian subcontinent, through Southeast Asia, to eastern Australia and various Pacific islands. Inhabits various forest types, woodlands, and dense scrub.
How to spot
Look for its brilliant green back and wings as it forages on the forest floor. It is often solitary and can be quite shy, so patience and quiet movement are beneficial. Listen for its soft, deep cooing calls.
When to spot
Most active during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon, foraging on the ground. Can be observed year-round.
