Spotted
A tiny, active warbler with a distinctive rufous forehead, olive-green upperparts, and pale underparts. It has a short tail.
Where to spot
Coastal and lowland tropical moist forests, especially dense undergrowth and thickets, in East Africa (Tanzania, Mozambique).
How to spot
Its tiny size and skulking habits make it challenging to spot. Listen for its very high-pitched, rapid, and somewhat insect-like song, often given from within dense cover.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day but often hidden.

Unlike the Asian tailorbirds, this African species doesn't 'sew' leaves, but its name reflects a historical association. Its tiny size makes it particularly elusive.
