Spotted
The Dull-bellied Myzomela is a small honeyeater endemic to the Solomon Islands. It is characterized by its relatively drab plumage compared to its more colorful relatives.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Solomon Islands, specifically found on Choisuel, Santa Isabel, Malaita, and Guadalcanal. It inhabits lowland and montane forests, forest edges, and disturbed areas.
How to spot
A small, rather plain myzomela with dusky upperparts and duller, brownish-grey underparts. Its name refers to its lack of bright belly coloration. Look for its active movements among flowering trees and listen for its thin, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Active throughout daylight hours, feeding on nectar and small insects. As a resident species, it can be observed year-round within its island habitats.
This species often forages by itself or in small groups, moving rapidly through the canopy of flowering trees to extract nectar.
