The Buru Myzomela is a small, dark honeyeater endemic to the island of Buru in Indonesia. It is characterized by its dusky plumage with a reddish-brown wash, similar to other dark myzomelas.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Buru, one of the larger islands in the Moluccas, Indonesia. It inhabits montane forests, forest edges, and sometimes disturbed areas, typically at higher elevations.
How to spot
Identify by its small size, dark brown to blackish plumage with a reddish-brown tinge, especially on the underparts. It forages actively in the canopy and mid-story of flowering trees. Listen for its thin, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Active during the day, feeding on nectar and small insects. As a resident species, it can be observed year-round within its montane forest habitat.
