The Yellow-capped Weaver is a small, forest-dwelling weaver, with a glossy black body and a contrasting yellow cap. It is a relatively shy and elusive species.
Where to spot
Found in West and Central Africa, including countries like Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Democratic Republic of Congo. Inhabits primary and mature secondary lowland rainforests.
How to spot
Look for its glossy black plumage and bright yellow cap. Search the mid to upper canopy of dense forests. Listen for its quiet, unassuming calls, which may reveal its presence.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings or late afternoons when birds are most active.
Unlike many weavers that prefer open habitats, this species is a true forest specialist, spending most of its time in the dense canopy.
