The Golden Weaver is a medium-sized, strikingly bright golden-yellow weaver bird. It is a common and conspicuous species, often found near water in savannas and cultivated areas.
Where to spot
Found in East Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Somalia. Inhabits savannas, wetlands, cultivated areas, and gardens, often near water.
How to spot
Look for its brilliant golden-yellow plumage. Observe males performing their elaborate nest-displaying behavior. Listen for their noisy, chattering calls from colonial nesting sites.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Breeding activity is most prominent during the rainy season, when males are in their brightest plumage and are actively building nests.
Males are known for their spectacular courtship display, which involves hanging upside down from the entrance of their newly built, intricately woven nest while calling to attract a female.
