Humid lowland forests, forest edges, plantations, and gardens in Southeast Asia, including Sumatra, Borneo, Java, and Bali.
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic 'pok-pok-pok' calls. Look for its green body and distinctive yellow crown in fruiting trees or on exposed branches.
When to spot
Year-round; most active and vocal during the morning hours.
Yellow-crowned Barbets are known for their habit of pecking at fruits, sometimes leaving distinctive marks on them, much like tiny woodpeckers.
