The Yellow-browed Seedeater is a small, streaky finch named for the yellowish stripe above its eye. It has an olive-green wash on its back.
Where to spot
Found in southern Africa, particularly in Malawi and Tanzania. It inhabits montane forests and forest edges, often in damp areas.
How to spot
Scan the undergrowth and lower canopy of montane forests. The yellowish supercilium (brow) is a key identification feature. Listen for its short, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Visible year-round in its resident range. Most active and vocal during the breeding season, typically tied to the rainy season.
This species is often found in small, active flocks, moving through the undergrowth in search of seeds.
