Spotted
The Hawaii Akialoa was an extinct Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to Hawaii Island. It was a large, dull olive-green bird with a strikingly long, extremely decurved bill, adapted for specialized nectar feeding.
Where to spot
Historically endemic to the native wet and mesic forests of Hawaii Island, particularly favoring areas with lobelioid plants.
How to spot
Observation is no longer possible. Historically, it was identified by its large size, dull olive plumage, and its exceptionally long, strongly decurved bill, often seen feeding at flowers.
When to spot
Last reliably observed in 1901 and is considered extinct. It is no longer observable.

Its bill was proportionally one of the longest among all Hawaiian honeycreepers, a perfect adaptation for reaching nectar deep within tubular lobelioid flowers.
