Spotted
The White-throated Treecreeper is a common and widespread treecreeper in eastern Australia, identifiable by its contrasting white throat and its unique ability to rapidly ascend tree trunks.
Where to spot
Found in a variety of forested habitats, including eucalypt woodlands, temperate rainforests, and open forests, across eastern and southeastern Australia.
How to spot
Watch for its distinctive foraging behavior on tree trunks. Listen for its high-pitched, repeated calls. They can be quite agile and blend in with bark, so quick and patient observation is key.
When to spot
Active year-round and throughout the day. More easily spotted during the breeding season when pairs are more vocal and conspicuous.

This species exhibits a unique foraging strategy: it systematically moves upwards in spirals on tree trunks and then flies down to the base of another tree to repeat the process, rarely moving downwards.
