Where to spot
Found in open eucalypt woodlands, mallee, and other dry forests across southeastern and eastern Australia, preferring habitats with mature trees.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive brown plumage and its habit of climbing tree trunks or hopping on the ground. Listen for its loud, repetitive 'tew-tew-tew' calls, which are quite characteristic.
When to spot
Active year-round, most easily seen foraging in the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler.
