Mid-story to canopy of humid montane and cloud forests, typically at higher elevations in the central Andes (Colombia, Ecuador).
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating 'chip-chip-chip' calls. Scan the mid-story and canopy. Often found in mixed-species flocks, moving actively. Good binoculars are helpful for canopy observation.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Calls are frequent, especially during the breeding season.
