Endemic to the Moluccas (especially Halmahera and Morotai) in Indonesia, found in lowland forests and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for its prominent white face and black body. Scan the mid-story and canopy of forests. Observe its active sallying for insects. Listen for its distinctive, often harsh calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the day, particularly in the mornings and late afternoons.
Its bold white facial mask against a dark body makes it easily recognizable and a visually striking bird.
