Where to spot
Found across the Iberian Peninsula, southern France, Italy, and into northwestern Africa. Prefers open deciduous and evergreen woodlands, orchards, and extensive scrub.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, flute-like, and highly variable song, often delivered from a prominent perch. Look for its relatively large size for a warbler, plain grey-brown plumage, and pale eye ring.
When to spot
Best observed during the breeding season from late spring to early summer (April-July). Migratory populations can be seen in sub-Saharan Africa during winter.
