Spotted
The Dwarf Eagle is a small, forest-dwelling eagle found in Southeast Asia, known for its relatively compact size among typical eagles. It hunts small birds and mammals within the forest canopy.
Where to spot
Primary and mature secondary lowland rainforests across parts of Southeast Asia, including the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo.
How to spot
Look for its small size for an eagle, dark brown upperparts, and rufous-streaked underparts. It typically perches quietly within the canopy or makes short, powerful flights, making it challenging to spot.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight. Often difficult to spot due to its preference for dense forest, but can be seen soaring briefly above the canopy.
