Endemic to the islands of Timor and Wetar in the Lesser Sundas, Indonesia. Primarily found in montane and submontane forests, ranging from moderate to high elevations, typically above 600 meters.

Look for its overall grey plumage, large size, and especially the contrasting pale grey or whitish belly which distinguishes it from other pigeons. Its deep, booming coo is also a key identifier for its presence.
