Tickell's Blue Flycatcher is a widespread and common species, instantly recognizable by the male's vibrant blue upperparts, a brighter blue forehead, and a warm rufous breast and flanks.
Where to spot
Widespread across South and Southeast Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and parts of Indonesia. Inhabits various forest types, scrub, gardens, and cultivated areas.
How to spot
Look for the male's bright blue upperparts and rufous breast. It often perches upright and sallies out to catch insects. Listen for its clear, sweet, whistled song.
When to spot
A resident species throughout most of its range, observable year-round. Most active at dawn and dusk. More vocal during the breeding season (typically spring/summer).
