Spotted
A large and robust lark, characterized by its heavily streaked brown plumage, strong bill, and upright posture. It is well-adapted to the high-altitude, open landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau.
Where to spot
High-altitude grasslands, open plains, and steppes on the Tibetan Plateau and surrounding regions of western China and northern India.
How to spot
Look for its large size and upright stance on the ground. Its song is delivered from the ground or in short, undulating flights. Patience is key in vast, open landscapes.
When to spot
Year-round resident. More vocal and active during the breeding season (late spring to summer).
The Tibetan Lark is among the largest lark species in the world, perfectly suited for the harsh, open environments of the high plateau where it can withstand extreme weather conditions.
