Endemic to the islands of Timor and Wetar in Wallacea, Indonesia. Inhabits montane forests, often at higher elevations.
How to spot
Look for its conspicuously thick and sturdy bill, contrasting with a plain olive-green body and prominent white eye-ring. Often found in mixed-species flocks, foraging actively. Listen for its high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Best observed during mornings in high-altitude forests.
Its robust bill is an adaptation for feeding on a wider range of food items, including larger insects and some fruits.
