Spotted
The Syrian Serin is a small, migratory finch with attractive yellow and grey plumage. It is known for its melodious song and preference for high-altitude habitats during the breeding season.
Where to spot
Found in the Middle East, breeding in mountainous regions of Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan. It winters in lower altitudes, including semi-arid areas and cultivated fields.
How to spot
Look for them in open, rocky slopes with sparse trees and shrubs. Listen for their bright, rapid song often delivered from a prominent perch or in flight.
When to spot
Best observed during the breeding season from spring to early summer when males are singing actively. Migration periods (spring and autumn) can also offer good viewing opportunities.

This species often incorporates mimicry of other birds' songs into its own complex vocalizations, making its song highly varied.
