Humid lowland and foothill forests, especially along rivers and streams, in southwestern Amazonia, including Peru, Bolivia, and western Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating, reedy calls, often given from deep within tangles. Patience is needed to glimpse this shy bird in its dense habitat.
When to spot
Year-round. Most vocal during early mornings and late afternoons, particularly in the breeding season.
This species has a distinctive, highly repetitive song, which can be a primary clue to its presence in dense forest.
