Spotted
The Streak-capped Antvireo is a small, subtly marked antvireo, characterized by faint streaking on its crown. It is a resident of humid montane forests.
Where to spot
Mid-story to canopy of humid montane and cloud forests, typically at higher elevations in the central Andes (Colombia, Ecuador).
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating 'chip-chip-chip' calls. Scan the mid-story and canopy. Often found in mixed-species flocks, moving actively. Good binoculars are helpful for canopy observation.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Calls are frequent, especially during the breeding season.
This species is often found in the canopy and subcanopy, where its muted plumage provides excellent camouflage amongst the leaves and branches.
