The Ash-breasted Antbird is a medium-sized antbird with a rather uniform greyish plumage and a darker face. It is generally found in association with riparian habitats.
Where to spot
Occurs in the understory of seasonally flooded forests (várzea and igapó) along major rivers in the Amazon basin.
How to spot
Seek them in dense riverine vegetation. Listen for their distinctive, often descending song. They can be quite elusive within the dense growth.
When to spot
Year-round resident, but accessibility to their habitat might depend on water levels. Best during lower water periods when more forest floor is exposed.
