Spotted
A small, plump warbler with pale grey underparts, rufous flanks, and a plain brown back. It has a relatively short tail often held cocked, giving it a wren-like appearance.
Where to spot
Miombo woodlands, especially areas with dense undergrowth, in Southern Central Africa (e.g., Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique).
How to spot
Look for its distinctive grey and rufous plumage and wren-like posture. It is a secretive bird, often staying within dense vegetation. Listen for its high-pitched, somewhat buzzy and rattling song.
When to spot

Stierling's Wren-Warbler is named after an early German ornithologist, and its specialized habitat in miombo woodlands makes it a flagship species for that ecosystem.
